Healthy Snacks for Homeschool Life

Whether you’re tackling virtual learning or homeschooling for the first time, it can be challenging to keep kids on track with snacks just an arm’s length away at all times. Last spring, we gave in and gave up  - ‘round the clock snacks for all! But this fall, we’re determined to stick to a healthy, balanced routine - and that includes incorporating healthy snacks into our daily homeschool schedule.

Here’s some of our favorite healthy snacks that are sure to delight the kiddos - and of course we like to sneak in veggies wherever we can. You might even find a scoop or two of Peekaboo ice cream in these recipes!

Mila’s Favorite Smoothie

Chocolate and peanut butter go hand in hand, so no surprise this is Jessica's daughter Mila's go-to smoothie. Plus with one scoop of Peekaboo chocolate ice cream with hidden cauliflower, you get the added benefits of Calcium, Riboflavin, Phosphorus and Vitamins A & C.

Recipe:

Chocolate Chip Zucchini Muffins

We love ALL muffins - but these veggie-packed recipes from The Natural Nurturer are some of our favorites! Add chocolate chips and it’s always a crowd pleaser.

This one requires some prep, but whip up a batch and you’ll have a healthy snack all week!

These zucchini muffins are always a hit. Get the recipe here

Make Your Own Flavor

This one has to be our favorite. Peekaboo organic ice cream is already loaded with veggies to make sure you get added vitamins, but we love mixing in these extras to make fun flavors, and even more nutrients!

Instantly make your own flavored Peekaboo by adding to vanilla and mixing the fruit du jour, or try some  of these handy combos which are favorites around our house:

  • mix fresh squeezed OJ + vanilla = creamsicle flavor
  • mix chocolate ice cream + fresh peanut butter = pb cup
  • mix strawberry ice cream + blackberries = mixed berry

Ants On A Log

We couldn’t NOT include this after-school snack classic, which happens to be one of Jessica’s favorites. It’s easy, fun, nutritious, and did we mention easy? Grab some celery, nut butter of  your choice and go wild. Rewarding extra good homeschooling behavior? Sub M&Ms or chocolate chips for the raisins, or throw some animal crackers on there - just make sure not to trip on your supermom cape ;)
