Jessica’s Guide to Miami

Did you hear the news? Peekaboo is now available at Whole Foods in Florida! Nothing gets me more excited than being able to shop my local Whole Foods and see pints of Peekaboo in the ice cream aisle. Ever the proud mama, I even took a video of the moment I first saw my perfectly packaged pints if you need proof (cue Instagram feed).

Being stocked at Whole Foods was a major milestone moment for the Peekaboo brand, especially since Miami is my hometown, and I’m thrilled to be able to share what we’ve been working on with my fellow Floridians.

And since we’re talking about by hometown, I thought I’d give you a little insight on some of my favorite things to do in Miami. In no particular order, the list includes my go-to’s, must-sees and a few things in between.

For the kids

Family is number one for me, and on the weekends, we like to spend the day exploring the Frost Museum of Science. The educational exhibits are a mix of science and nature and can keep all of us entertained and engaged for hours. My kids love the aquarium, which is filled with undersea habitats of local flora and fauna including glowing jellyfish, deep sea creatures and vibrant corals. Inside, the planetarium is an immersive star-filled experience that will wow you. I mean, really W-O-W.

Beach Days in Surfside

I’m a little biased (clearly), but my hometown of Surfside really is the BEST place for families. Our mile-long beach is a beautiful place to spend the day with the fam for a picnic, or a few hours playing in the waves and soaking up the sun – with sunscreen of course. The beach is clean, it’s mostly locals and in turtle nesting season, you might see a Florida loggerhead turtle hatching – I know, how cool is that!?

Beach Access Points:

Sweet Treats

If you decided to roam around the streets of Surfside, cool off with a sweet treat from the place where it all started, Serendipity Creamery. This neighborhood scoop shop started as my dream and launched my career in the world of ice cream. Featuring over 24 made-from-scratch signature flavors like Arnold Palmer, Pecan Pie, and Orange Marmalade, it features a little something for every palate. It’s also where I do my Peekaboo Ice Cream R&D, so you might even get samples of the next flavor before it hits shelves!

Relax in Style

One of my favorite ways to relax is a day at the spa at The Standard Spa Miami Beach. An idyllic oasis with no kids, no drama, and all fun, it’s the perfect escape for a parents-only daycation. My routine involves a massage, steam and soak in the marbled hammam followed by a swim in the pool (dip your head under to listen to the underwater vibrations) and a nap under the palms. If you’re hungry, you can’t go wrong ordering off the health-forward menu. I love a Limonada de Coco, fresh coconut water topped with lime shavings, and the macro salmon bowl.

Shop ‘Til You Drop

You can’t mention Miami without thinking about shopping; style is at a premium here. There is no lack of places to go but there are definitely a few standouts.

Bal Harbour Shops

As a fashion lover, this is my haven: high-end brands plus a mix of fashion-forward boutiques like Intermix and The Webster, all in the most gorgeous indoor-outdoor setting that is the ultimate in Miami Chic.

Sustainable, ethical fashion from cool European brands and emerging designers sourced from all over the world in an effortlessly cool setting that is, of course, appointment only. I’ll give you a tip, make that appointment, because you can’t walk out of this store empty handed.

All the Eats

When I’m not eating Peekaboo, I like to frequent a few places around town, because yes, I do eat other food groups. Kidding aside, Miami has an incredible culinary scene with world-renowned chefs and a mix of fab restaurants.

Swan

Admittedly, this is the newest hotspot in town. It is also right up my alley. Pharrell is a part-owner, so the design is on point, with a lush garden-like interior, leopard chairs, and pink wallpaper, this establishment is a total dream. And it’s not just eye candy, the European, French-inspired cuisine is out-of-this-world. When you’re finished with dinner, head upstairs to the hip Bar Bevy for a cocktail, or two.

Plant Miami

My go-to vegan restaurant, Plant Miami, is a hidden gem in an unassuming corner of Wynwood. The whole menu is raw, focusing on plant-based dishes and beverages that place a priority on natural wines. Dining here is almost a spiritual experience with unexpected flavor combinations and sense of serenity that just makes you feel good.

Le Sirenuse

This is the most sophisticated space in Miami. A white glove experience made for celebrations, this fine dining spot is an example of what food as art looks like. The service is impeccable, and the surroundings will transport you to the Amalfi Coast – nothing can top it!

Michael’s Genuine

Chef Michael Schwartz started the farm-to-table movement in Miami with Michael’s Genuine. Though he’s expanded his empire, this original is still my favorite. Tucked away in the Design District, I head here for dinner during the week for an order of the day’s oysters, roasted chicken and a mix of sides including grilled carrots and their never-to-be-forgotten house salad.

Where to Eat:
130 NE 40th St,
Miami, Florida 33137

Makoto

Located in Bal Harbor, Makoto is my go-to spot for sushi. I swear it’s the cleanest, freshest fish in town. The indoor/outdoor ambiance also makes it great for date night and equally good for lunch with the kiddos.
